GREEK ISLAND WEDDINGS INFORMATION
WEDDING IN GREECE INFOMATION
- The bride and groom must both have a valid 10 year passport (or if Greek an Identity Card). You each must bring your original passport plus a translated and legalised photocopy.
- Full length version of birth certificate – in addition to the original, you must also bring a translated and legalised photocopy.
- If either member of the wedding couple has been divorced they must be in possession of a Decree Absolute – bring both the original court document plus a translated and legalised photocopy.
- If either member of the wedding couple has been widowed, they will need to provide both the original death certificate of their late spouse, plus a translated and legalised photocopy.
- Non E.U. citizens ONLY, must have a Residents Permit.
- Greeks ONLY, must complete the Solemn Declaration per Law N.1599/1986 in which the interested party declares that there is no impediment to his/her marriage (Article 1350-1365).
- A Certificate of No Impediment which may be obtained from the Superintendent Registrar at your local Registry Office / Town Hall (This document is issued/dated within three months of the intended date of marriage and has an expiry date). It takes approximately 14-21 days for this document to be issued.
- If either member has changed their name (e.g. reverting to maiden name after a divorce) proof is required, stamped and signed by a solicitor on headed paper (a photocopy will NOT be accepted).
- If either member is under 18 years of age, proof of parental consent in the form of a Statutory Declaration is required – stamped and signed by a solicitor.
