Thailand is unlike anywhere else in the world. Fall in love with the breathtaking scenery from the rural north
to the idyllic beaches and islands in the south. Thailand is the complete destination for a family friendly holiday,
break with friends, romantic getaway or the perfect setting for a wedding and honeymoon.
With so many wonderful places to explore, each month we give you the low down on one Thai resort to help you
decide where to go first! You can also visit www.tourismthailand.co.uk and check out ‘Planning a Trip’
for more detailed destination information.
This month we take a closer look at the traditional fishing village
of Hua Hin!
Hua Hin is the oldest and most traditional Thai resort that combines the attractions of a modern holiday destination
with the charm and fascination of a, still active, fishing port. Hua Hin is particularly popular with the Thais
thanks to its close proximity to Bangkok and therefore ideal spot as a weekend destination.
281 kilometers south of Bangkok, Hua Hin, which literally means stone head in Thai, offers clean white sand,
crystal clear water and a tranquil atmosphere perfect for tourists in search of peaceful and relaxing holidays.
The resort was discovered in the early 1920s by King Rama VII as an ideal getaway from the metropolis of Bangkok.
The tranquil fishing village was turned into a Royal resort and with the construction of a railway line from Bangkok
this ensured easy accessibility and Hua Hins popularity grew. The resort's royal endorsement has given Hua Hin
a special character of its own. In 1928,
King Rama VII built his Klai Kangwon (Far From Worries) Palace which remains today as an official royal residence.
It is still frequently used by members of the royal family and is open to the public for visits as a tourist attraction.

Today's visitor to Hua Hin will sense a special atmosphere of old world charm. Enjoy sun-filled days on the beach,
where there are leisure activities for the whole family from watersports to golf.
The area around the town provides a journey through nature, discovering fabulous National Parks
(Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park), exploring caves, swimming in waterfalls and spotting exotic birds.
Besides it's great 5 mile long curved sandy beach and surrounding natural beauty Hua Hin has the added attraction
of being home to some of the best world class golf courses anywhere in Thailand. Green-fees are currently
among the lowest in the world while course maintenance and services are of high standard.
In the evening the winding streets with a variety of shops and exciting food market make a pleasant stroll.
As a fishing village, Hua Hin is particularly famous for its seafood. For seafood lovers there is an excellent
selection of restaurants built on stilts into the sea offering superb Thai dishes.
Hua Hin has all the ingredients for a very special holiday experience.
