Travel links to
SKI-TRAIN 0845 225 0492 TLC ski!
From the UK to Ski - party or sleep your way to the slopes...
with travel link co-ordinators ski link coordinators!
Do you remember the advertisement ‘Let the train take the strain’ do you associate it with the
curling sandwiches, delays and grubby carriages of the much joked about old British Rail.
Train travel in the UK is not perfect and certainly over-priced and mostly overcrowded,
if you book direct or 'last minute....
A Hotel owner friend of mine in Greece, had to -
"Endure the delays, the discomfort and being treated worse
than cattle" The cost of his "Walk on" ticket was the first shock...
Indeed, If you need to book less than three weeks in advance the ticket price is often
more expensive than flying!
Here is a positive note from TLC.
Six weeks before travel is usually the best ticket deal date and it is no secret that
if you subscribe to your main train operator, email list - you will get notification of
very special rates, including first class returns.
So called every day, rail travel at the moment is basic to say the least-
but the good news is that snow lovers and travellers can enjoy superb rail services
on the way to enjoying their favourite hobby, holiday break or business trip.

An example is Mid-week breaks by Ski-train
Most skiers probably already know about the Snowtrain service
(Out on Friday, back on Sunday), which allows you two extra day's skiing on a
week or two week’s holiday, but did you know that you can take the train
out to the Alps for your short break travel as well?
You can go to the Alps rather than flying - reduce carbon emissions and get more time
in the Alps.
(Eco- Travel is part of the reason Travel Link Co-ordinators was formed in 2002)
Travelling by Ski-Train (Year round alternatives) is like going to the airport but
without the stress…
The journey to the Alps starts from London Waterloo. (Soon to be available at St.Pancras)
The Eurostar terminal is superb, with all the facilities of an airport but somehow without all
of the frenetic fuss.
Catching a flight means you are constantly herded and never quite settled.
Check-in, passport control, security, duty free, waiting at the gate and finally the plane.
Have you got everything you need in your hand luggage?
Have you left your boarding card in the duty free shop? The contrast with travel by
train couldn't be greater.
The walk to the train is only a couple of hundred metres, rather than a few miles (Literally)
and within five minutes of boarding and reclining in your seat, you are off.
Comfortable, spacious and express, in the real meaning of the word!
Rail Europe along with Eurostar have first class seating available for the highly
recommended journey to Paris,
The seats were comfortable and spacious, but even the regular carriages
were plush by "British Rail" standards., almost like American rail travel -
which I can also whole-heartedly recommend.
First class free champagne is always very welcome to start the holiday and the delicious
evening meals provided also would definitely make you want to upgrade next time.
Metro switch
Arriving into Paris can be slightly apprehensive, for the transfer from Gare du Nord to
Gare d’Austerlitz but you need not worry as the switch is simple -
nine stops on the no.5 Metro line takes you directly between the two, in only 20 minutes.
Yes French Metro is still tres bon (About the only French you need on your journey!)
Couchettes work if you are on a tight budget - out on the train to Moutiers
and the couchettes are already made up when you board with plenty of luggage space
above you.
The next thing you know is that the train has stopped in a station. The 'Wake up call" is
Albertville and 15 minutes later you are in Moutiers. If you are hungary the café opposite
the station does a bon petit dejeuner for €7
Hotels, Chalets, Car hire or local taxi transfers can be coordinated for your arrival.
Ski today
You could easily be on the snow by 10:00, with skiing going on for three full days
Moutiers 22:15 departure is perfect, no problem sleeping on the way back...
The journey is smooth, with the only negative being there is an early switch in Paris,
arriving into Gare d’Austerlitz at 06:00.
Most people are impressed with the whole experience and it is better for the environment,
So the next time you’re heading off to the Alps, business or pleasure,
even on a short trip, why not let the train take the strain.
CARBON EMISSION COST
Railways are the least carbon-intensive mode of transport.
The average emission of CO2 per passenger-kilometre by rail is between 13% and 27%
of a shorthaul flight.
TICKET COST
All train travel can be booked through Travel Link Co-ordinators - on the site, you can set up
your own private account with Eurostar or the "Trainline" for all UK/ European trains-
this means you only need to click on at TLC to get instant travel and booking facility,
with the tickets delivered to you by first class, usually within three days or pick up
at the station.for quick getaways!
There is no equivalent journey by air that will give you the same amount of time on the slopes and travelling
by this type of train is in a class of its own!
