Ski Information GREEN SKI RESORTS
THINK BIG PROTECT WHAT WE HAVE BE HARD - GO GREEN Ski Club's Respect the Mountain campaign. Backing up the words with some serious action, Help create the first eco-impact evaluation database for the world's ski resorts
Ski Club's detailed, informative and easy to use green guide. If you are concerned about the effect climate change is having on snow levels, glacial coverage & mountain life, but wonder what you can do to make a difference, here's a great place to start. Base your destination decision on the environmental policies and practices of the resort, itself. Or, if your favourite resort scores low, make a noise about it when your there, pepper them with emails before you arrive, plant a tree in the middle of every piste you ski... or go somewhere else. Anyway, whatever you use it for, the Ski Club have created a valuable resource for skiers, boarders and everybody else to assess the eco-friendliness of ski resorts. Over 200 worldwide resorts... traffic reduction, sewage management, climate policy and green building policy. This makes it definitely the only one-stop service of its kind on the worldwide web. Ski Club has long acknowledged that skiers and snowboarders need to recognise the reality of climate change, including the worrying trend of rising average temperatures and changing snowfall patterns. By using the Green Resort Guide when undertaking ski holiday research, users can now make decisions about where to ski based on the environmental activities of a resort. Caroline Stuart-Taylor, Chief Executive of the Ski Club, said of the new database “By providing skiers and boarders with an environmental guide, we hope to drive up standards by highlighting the resorts that are doing a lot to help preserve the environment, as well as those that aren't doing much at all. We hope this guide will educate skiers, snowboarders, and the snowsports industry.” The Green Resort Guide is the next step in the Ski Club’s Respect the Mountain campaign. Launched at the start of last winter season, this award-winning campaign was designed to raise awareness of environmental issues with regard to snowsports, giving advice on how people can adapt their behaviour to help preserve the mountains with a seven-step guide.
