Eastern and Oriental Express

BANGKOK TO SINGAPORE ITINERARY:

Sunday: BANGKOK
The Eastern & Oriental Express departs Bangkok's Hualampong station early
evening. Having been welcomed onboard the gleaming carriages, settle into your

comfortable compartment. Dinner is served as the train travels from city into the

countryside with its rice-fields, villages and water buffalo. Retire to your compartment,

transformed into a cosy bedroom by your steward.

Monday: WANG PO/KWAI
Awake early in order not to miss the excitement of the train making its way from

Wang Po along the wooden trestle viaduct beside a towering cliff. Later that morning

the E & O stops at Kanchanaburi. A good photo opportunity is provided as the train

proceeds over the Bridge. Cruise along the Kwai Yai River aboard a traditional floating

barge observing the many splendid Thai teakwood houses amidst peaceful scenery.

A short coach ride takes you to the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre where a local

historian will provide an informative tour through the air-conditioned museum.

Following this, there is an optional visit to the Don Rak war cemetery. Rejoin the E&O,

for lunch. Reflect on the day's sights over dinner and relax with a drink in the Bar Car

before retiring for the night.

Tuesday: PENANG
After breakfast, served in the comfort of your compartment, the train arrives into

Butterworth. Here coaches take you across to Georgetown on the local ferry.

At Weld Quay you board trishaws which take you through many of Georgetown's

interesting districts. Take the short ferry ride back to Butterworth and rejoin the Eastern &
Oriental Express for lunch. Spend the afternoon watching the passing scenery from

one of the lounge cars or from the open deck of the Observation Car. Dine again in

one of the opulent dining cars and then spend a relaxing evening in the Bar Car with its

resident pianist. Spend your last night on board.

Wednesday: SINGAPORE
All too soon after breakfast it's time to leave the train, having crossed into Singapore

via the causeway of the Straits of Johor.

BANGKOK TO CHIANG MAI ITINERARY:

Wednesday: BANGKOK-AYUTTHAYA
The Eastern & Oriental Express departs Bangkok in the morning. Lunch is served

while the train journeys northwards through the Thai countryside.

You disembark at Ayutthaya where the magnificent ruins of temples,

palaces and crumbling fortresses provide eloquent testimony of the former capital's splendour.

A guided tour is followed by a relaxing cruise onboard a classical rice barge.

Sit back and watch the riverside life glide by and admire the famous

Wat Chai Wattanaram and the Queen of Thailand's Ayutthaya Palace.

Dinner and overnight on board as the train continues its journey.

Thursday: CHIANG MAI
Awake to your steward serving breakfast in the comfort of your private compartment

before arrival into Chiang Mai, Thailand's second largest city, where you disembark.

Chiang Mai has a rich and colourful history evident in its architecture and is renowned

for the greatest concentration of handicraft industries in the country.

CHIANG MAI TO BANGKOK ITINERARY:

Thursday:
Settle into your compartment as the Eastern & Oriental Express departs Chiang Mai

before enjoying a delightful lunch in one of the beautiful dining cars. Later that

afternoon you arrive into Lampang, where you may disembark to stretch your legs.

Dine in one of the sumptuous dining cars and spend a relaxing evening in the Bar Car

entertained by the resident pianist. Retire to your compartment which has been

transformed into a cosy bedroom by your personal steward.

Friday:
Breakfast is served by your steward in your cabin before arriving at Kanchanaburi,

where you disembark for a photo opportunity of the train crossing the famous Bridge

over the River Kwai. You then board a traditional large floating barge for a cruise

along the River Kwai passing many splendid Thai teakwood houses amidst peaceful

lush scenery. A short coach ride transfers you to the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre

where a local historian will provide an informative tour through the air-conditioned

museum. Rejoin the train for lunch before arrival into Bangkok in the afternoon.

the colourful narrow streets. Reboard the train for lunch and spend the afternoon

watching the passing scenery from one of the lounge cars or from the open deck of

the Observation Car. Dine again in one of the opulent dining cars before arriving into

Kuala Lumpur.

houses amidst peaceful scenery. A short coach ride takes you to the Thailand - Burma

Railway Centre where a local historian will provide an informative tour through the

air -conditioned museum. Following this, there is an optional visit to the

Don Rak war cemetery.

Rejoin the E & Orient express for lunch before arriving into Bangkok in the afternoon.

Chiang Mai, Thailand's second largest city. Chiang Mai has a rich and colourful

history evident in its architecture and is renowned for the greatest concentration of

handicraft industries in the country. Join in the alms-giving ceremony of tham bun at

Wat Chedi Luang before meeting a Thai Princess at her home. This beautiful house

is in a typical Thai style and classic design and is open exclusively to E&O guests.

Return to the Eastern & Oriental Express for lunch. Later that afternoon you arrive

into Lampang, where you may disembark and stretch your legs. Dinner and overnight

onboard the train.

Friday: KANCHANABURI
After breakfast the E&O stops at Kanchanaburi. A good photo opportunity is provided

as the train proceeds over the River Kwai Bridge. Cruise along the Kwai Yai River
