BANGKOK TO SINGAPORE ITINERARY: Sunday: BANGKOK comfortable compartment. Dinner is served as the train travels from city into the countryside with its rice-fields, villages and water buffalo. Retire to your compartment, transformed into a cosy bedroom by your steward. Monday: WANG PO/KWAI Wang Po along the wooden trestle viaduct beside a towering cliff. Later that morning the E & O stops at Kanchanaburi. A good photo opportunity is provided as the train proceeds over the Bridge. Cruise along the Kwai Yai River aboard a traditional floating barge observing the many splendid Thai teakwood houses amidst peaceful scenery. A short coach ride takes you to the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre where a local historian will provide an informative tour through the air-conditioned museum. Following this, there is an optional visit to the Don Rak war cemetery. Rejoin the E&O, for lunch. Here coaches take you across to Georgetown on the local ferry. At Weld Quay you board trishaws which take you through many of Georgetown's interesting districts. Take the short ferry ride back to Butterworth and rejoin the Eastern & one of the lounge cars or from the open deck of the Observation Car. Dine again in one of the opulent dining cars and then spend a relaxing evening in the Bar Car with its resident pianist. Spend your last night on board. BANGKOK TO CHIANG MAI ITINERARY: Wednesday: BANGKOK-AYUTTHAYA while the train journeys northwards through the Thai countryside. You disembark at Ayutthaya where the magnificent ruins of temples, palaces and crumbling fortresses provide eloquent testimony of the former capital's splendour. A guided tour is followed by a relaxing cruise onboard a classical rice barge. Sit back and watch the riverside life glide by and admire the famous Wat Chai Wattanaram and the Queen of Thailand's Ayutthaya Palace. Dinner and overnight on board as the train continues its journey. Thursday: CHIANG MAI before arrival into Chiang Mai, Thailand's second largest city, where you disembark. Chiang Mai has a rich and colourful history evident in its architecture and is renowned for the greatest concentration of handicraft industries in the country.

Later that afternoon you arrive into Lampang, where you may disembark to stretch your legs. Friday: where you disembark for a photo opportunity of the train crossing the famous Bridge over the River Kwai.
