LONDON CITY AIRPORT

Docklands Light Railway (DLR) extension. The £130m project is on time and

scheduled to open 15 December 2005. When complete services will operate every 10 minutes with a

journey time of

7/8 minutes to Canary Wharf and 20 minutes to The Bank. The current bus service to Canary Wharf will be

discontinued but as things stand the Liverpool route will operate, subject to demand. The airport says

that the construction work has been well managed to date and there has been virtually no complaints by

either travellers or local residents. In spite of extra security precautions the airlines at LCY are still

operating a 15 minute check-in policy. For the future it should be easily possible to leave The City one hour

before departure time and guarantee a flight connection. New mobile check-in procedures will also help.

ZOOM Airlines has launched a new non-stop scheduled flight from Stansted Airport to Vancouver,

the only transatlantic service on offer from the airport just north of London. The weekly, Saturday flight was

launched on May 29 and according to the company, advanced bookings are so strong that a number of the

services this summer are already fully-booked. Zoom, established by travel entrepreneurs Hugh and John Boyle,

has been very successful since it introduced its low-fare full-service flights earlier this year.

Alongside the new Stansted service, the airline is also offering direct flights from Glasgow and London’s

Gatwick airport to Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver and Edmonton.

Richard Branson's Virgin Atlantic Airways ordered new Airbus jets worth USD$5.5 billion on Thursday to

double its fleet as it takes on arch-rival British Airways. Virgin said it would create 6,000 new jobs and

fly new routes to Australia and the Caribbean after placing orders and options for 26 long-range

A340-600 aircraft.

The deal was a coup for Airbus which beat Boeing for the order.

"This is by some way the biggest aircraft order in Virgin Atlantic's history and

will enable us to double the size of the airline over the next five years," Branson told reporters.
Virgin placed orders for 13 new A340-600 aircraft with options for a further 13. Based on list prices,

Virgin said the total deal is valued at USD$5.5 billion, with deliveries taking place between 2006-08,
The airline currently has 29 aircraft, a mixture of Boeing 747s and A340s.

It also has ordered six Airbus A380 super-jumbo planes.
Branson said the airline hoped to take on its biggest rival, British Airways, as it expands its long-haul

network out of London with new planned routes to Australia and the Caribbean.
It wants to double the number of passengers flying on its planes each year from 4 million to 8 million.

The new planes will be used to add capacity to its existing network to the US, Hong Kong, Japan, India,

the Caribbean and Africa.
The company is also considering a range of new routes in Australia, the Middle East,

Asia and North America. Branson said Virgin picked the four-engined Airbus aircraft over Boeing's 777

because passengers preferred the extra engines, but also said he took into account the fact Airbus was

European and would create jobs in Britain. The A340-600 wide-body passenger jets are powered by

Rolls-Royce Trent 500 engines.
Sir Richard Branson told the news conference the airline had people in Nigeria talking about the possibility of

a new start-up African carrier. He also confirmed media reports that US investment firm

Green Briar Equity Group may be one of the lead investors in its new US budget airline Virgin America.

JAMAICA: The Fun island

An island of contrasts with happy helpful people. Holiday, Travel, Get Married, Honeymoon,

Explore or Beach & Party

Jamaica is making a comeback to the tourist after the Huricain which according to our Jamaican contacts

" Oh it just brushed by Kingston, as little bit ". Latest figures from the Jamaica Tourist Board show visitors

up by

over 10% June 2004 against June 2003 and over 13% in the year to date. Against 2001 the increase is 30%.

What these figures do not reflect is the increase at the top of the market. Jamaica is gaining more and more

popularity with the very rich as it did in the days of British rule with Noel Coward and the James Bond author

Ian Fleming as residents.

A different audience is attracted by the birthplace of Bob Marely and reggae music.

There are also many small businesses, Hotel Motel Villa & accommodation worth considering.

Jamaica is a supprising island it is a safe friendly place - tourist are highly praised, welcomed &

 looked after by all.

DEAF YOUNGSTERS need to be specially considered when flying according to the National Deaf Children's

Society (NDCS) who are calling for airlines to take action to clear up the current confusion and

uncertainty that exists with airlines regarding treatment of passengers with hearing problems.

This follows a recent incident at Heathrow where a group of young adults were denied a flight.

A similar incident also occurred at Liverpool last year. There is already a government Voluntary

Code of Practice which offers advice to airlines on how to treat deaf passengers.

To be fair most good airlines do look after passengers with physical and medical problems very well.

What NDCS is doing is just reminding those carriers who lack in this area of their responsibilities.

The cost is minimal and includes the provision of personal hearing neck loops for passengers who need them;

subtitled safety videos and ensuring that staff have undertaken deaf awareness training and have a

basic level of sign language knowledge. And also on the disability front Thomas Cook Airlines is to repaint the

toilet compartments of its fleet of 24 aircraft so that partially sighted passengers can more easily locate

essential fittings. Use of contrasting colours will enable passengers to identify such items as the

toilet flush button and the door handle.
