The first inhabitants built the famous megalithic temples of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra,
as well as the Ggantija Temples. These are among the best preserved freestanding temples in the world.
In 1530 the Knights of the Hospitaller Order of St. John settled in Malta and for more than 200 years,
they endowed the island with monuments and the magnificent baroque architecture of towns, fortresses,
churches and palaces. Today travel links with history and culture offer an interesting combination of
