HOTELS
Five-star hotels are very expensive in Kuwait city

There is a Crowne Plaza near to the airport, military bases and oil companies. It has 330 rooms and a choice of

seven restaurants plus a fitness centre, swimming pool and five squash courts.

The Radisson SAS is on the beach about ten minutes from the airport and close to the Salmiya shopping area.
City centre properties include the Sheraton Kuwait Hotel and Towers and the adjoining Four Points by the

Sheraton hotel Kuwait

There's also the JW Marriott hotel in Kuwait City and Le Meridien Tower hotel Kuwait, which has 70 modern

rooms and a restaurant which offers live cooking shows and other points of interest

RESTAURANTS
Due to the strict alcohol laws you will probably find that most of your evening leisure time will be spent in a restaurant.

One of the most entertaining is the Al Boom Restaurant (tel 565 7000) in the grounds of the Radisson SAS Hotel.

Housed in a traditional Kuwaiti dhow (boat) this restaurant serves orthodox but good quality fare in an

enjoyable atmosphere. On the menu is beef steak, lobster and local fish specialities.

Cascade in Le Meridien Tower Kuwait is open until midnight and diners are entertained by live cooking displays

from the restaurant's show kitchens. The Kuwait Towers Restaurant offers much the same standard of food and

the views of the city of Kuwait are unparalleled.
Arabian Gulf Street is a good place to go to for eateries. Le Notre serves high quality French cuisine and

Mais Alghanim offers a vast Lebanese menu. Lovers of Japanese food are well catered for at the

Sakura Japanese restaurant (Crowne Plaza).

entertainment
Alcohol is illegal in Kuwait so you won't find a bar in Kuwait City. There are a lot of informal burger bars such as

Fuddruckers (Arabian Gulf Street) and TGI Fridays (Gulf Road) though they tend to attract more youths than

weary businessmen.
The lounges and bars of the major hotels are the most popular places to hang out. In the city centre,

the Sheraton Kuwait Hotel and Towers has the Lobby Lounge and an English Tea Lounge.

The Parisienne-style Cafe Royal is found in the Salhia shopping centre.

local attractions
The Kuwait Towers are the main landmark in the city. Of the three towers,

the tallest measures in at over 180 metres. It offers great views of the city from its café and restaurant located in

the tower's lower globe.
Kuwait's National Museum (Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Street) used to house some of the best Islamic art in the world until

the Gulf War when it was looted and torched. Much of the museum is still under restoration following the Iraqi invasion

and sections are closed to the public. It will probably never have such an impressive collection of art as it did

but the museum is still worth seeing.
The Grand Mosque (Mubarak Al-Kabeer Street) is large enough for nearly 6000 worshippers and survived the war

relatively untouched. It is also open to non-Muslims outside of prayer time.
