Places of Interest
St Gerasimos - This is the Abbey where the island's protector used to live as a monk.
Angakali and Melissanthi Caves - These caves have impressive underground lakes which
change colour during the day.
The tomb of Odysseus is still being excavated. It is located outside Poros.
Many locals firmly believe this Mycenaean tomb must have belonged to Odysseus and that this
great king impossibly could have ruled just the small Ithaca. But don't tell that to Ormiros -
the best agent on Ithaki (Most of the time...)
Beaches:
Anti samos - The beach made famous by the film 'Captain Corelli's Mandolin'
Makris and Plati Yialos - Two of the island's most popular sandy beaches
Aghia Efimia - Shingle beaches and pebble bays surrounded by crystal blue waters and green hillsides.
Ideal for couples. Find a cove all to yourselves
Skala - A mix of sand and pebbles, with trees where you can take a break from the sun.
Water sport facilities and tavernas are available.
SAMI - on the 'Other side' of Kefalonia.
Worth a visit to this town, a little touristy but they are building a large marina, so see it as it is.
This is also the main port for Ithaki and Patra, with liners going to Corfu and Athens
