INDONESIA INFORMATION

IMMIGRATION
All visitor to Indonesia to Indonesia must hold passport which are valid for a least six months after arrival and have proof of

onward journey, either return or through tickets.

Indonesia CUSTOMS:
Idonesia Customs allow on entry a maximum of two liters of alcoholic's beverage, 200 cigarettes, or 50 cigars,

or 100 grams of tobacco and reasonable amount of perfume per adult.
Carrying narcotics, arms and ammunitions, TV sets, radio / radio cassette recorders, pornographic object / publications,

printed matter in Chinese characters and Chinese medicines are prohibited. Advance approval has to be acquired for bringing in

transceivers. All movie film and videocassettes will have to be deposited for review by the Indonesian Film Censor Board.
There is no restriction on import and export of foreign currencies in cash, traveler's cheque and other bank instruments,

which are fully convertible to rupiahs and vice versa. There is, however, a limitation on the movement of Indonesian rupiahs in or

out of the country and normal than Rp. 50,000 is allowed.

Indonesia COMMUNICATIONS
Long distance call within Indonesia is by direct dial. International Direct Dial (IDD) systems are being expanded and are available in

major cities and hotels.


Completely computerized, the international dialing system has links with 145 countries and where direct dialing is not available,

with connections are possible through operator-assisted call.
New telephones have been installed for collect call to Australia, Holland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea and the

USA through Home Country Direct.
The phones are located in Jakarta: Terminal A at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, the Business Center of Jakarta Hilton, the lobbies of

Hotel Indonesia and President Hotel and the ground floor Mid Plaza. In Bali, the special Home Country Direct telephones are

installed in the international terminal of Ngurah Rai airport, Hotel Puti Bali and Hotel Bali Beach and at the Adisucipto airport in

Yogyakarta. Just dial 00 + 801 + country code.
Telex and facsimile service are also available in the telecommunications offices in Major cities and hotels.

TRANSPORT
At major airports in Indonesia, there are taxis with fixed rate. Metered taxis are available only at Soekarno-Hatta

International Airport, Jakarta.

CURRENCY

Main foreign currencies are exchangeable at banks and moneychangers in the major cities of Indonesia. Indonesian rupiahs come in

denominations of 100,000, 50,000, 20,000, 10,000, 5000, 1000, 500 and 100 in bank notes and 100, 50, 25, in coins.
Credit card is accepted at most hotels restaurants. However, it is advisable to carry cash when traveling out side the major cities.

TIPPING
At most hotels a service charge of 10 % is added to the bill. In most restaurants a serviced charge is not added, however,

a tip of 5 to 10% will be appropriate depending on the service and tip of establishment, though is not mandatory.

CLOTHING
Dress in formal and like clothing is advisable due to the hot, humid climate. A jacket and tie are required for formal occasions and

when making official calls. For travel area, a light weather or jacket is recommended.
Batik is popular for men's shirt and ladies dresses. Very casual attire such as shorts and halter-tops is not considered proper except

in sport facilities and on the beach.

OFFICE HOURS
Most government offices are open from 8.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. On Friday, government offices close at 11.30 a.m. and on Saturday

are open till 1.00 p.m. or 2.00 p.m.
Business offices open from 8.00 a.m. or 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. or 5.00 p.m. Some work half days on Saturday.
Banks open from 8.00 to 3.00 p.m. on week-days but foreign banks close on Saturday. Bank branches in hotels and moneychangers

stay open longer, also on Saturday and Sundays.

TIME
Indonesia is divided in to tree time zones. Western Indonesian Time (Sumatra, Java, West and Central Kalimantan) is

7 hours ahead at GMT, Central Indonesia and East Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara), is 8 hours a heated and East Indonesia Time

(Maluku and Irian Jaya) 9 hours a head of GMT.

CULTURE AND TRADITIONS
The population is randominantly Moslem but there is freedom of worship; women have equal rights with men in education and

the opportunity to work. Traditional customs play an important part in family and community life and the variety of art forms are

evolved from local culture modes.
Indonesian are very polite people. Hand shaking is customary, both for men and women on introduction and greeting,

and smiling is national characteristic.
