Virgin Atlantic has moved into its fast and efficient new terminal at Heathrow - and immediately proclaimed it Terminal 6. The opening, by The Spice Girls and Sir Richard Branson, before BA switches its flights to Terminal 5. They will benefit from short journeys between check-in and their security checks, and walk through a much smaller and state-of-the-art terminal than the giant Terminal 5. The new Virgin Atlantic Terminal is much quicker to get to, from central London by car and Heathrow Express, than Terminal 5. Sir Richard Branson, President of Virgin Atlantic, commented: “We've been secretly working on our plans for Terminal 6 for two years and are delighted that we can now show other airlines how check-in should be. Our new terminal is fast, efficient and seamless, and enables our business passengers to check-in from limo to lounge in just six minutes. Today's opening signals the rebirth of Heathrow Airport - and it's happening months before BA switch their flights to the giant Terminal 5." Virgin Atlantic's business class check in, the Upper Class Wing, boasts the fastest Check In in the world making it possible to transfer from limo to lounge in minutes, partly due to a dedicated security corridor. Premium Economy and Economy passengers benefit from a brand new Check In area which is wider, brighter and more spacious, enabling passengers to check-in at kiosks in a fast, efficient and stress-free way. Virgin Atlantic expects 80% of its passengers at Heathrow to be using Online or Kiosk Check-In by the end of 2008. The new terminal was officially opened by the Spice Girls, who flew back into the UK today for the UK leg of their tour. The girls also named a Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747 “Spice One” yesterday in their honour. Virgin Atlantic’s new terminal facility will handle over 60,000 passengers every week and around three million passengers in the next year alone. Virgin America launches JFK to Las Vegas
Launched only on 8 August 2007, and not without some high level discussions regarding ownership,
Virgin America has celebrated its first year of flying. On Thursday 4 September Virgin America introduced
a daily direct New York – Las Vegas service. For the first month of the route, uniquely, the first class cabin
will be named after a highly successful TV show, Entourage.
The unveiling of “Entourage Air” will serve as the kickoff of a larger licensing partnership between HBO,
the TV station, and Virgin America, allowing the airline to offer premium HBO content on RED,
its interactive, in-flight entertainment system.
Virgin America is a two class service on all flights and passengers benefit from mood lighting,
said to be the first on a US carrier.
First Class seats offer 55 inches of pitch and are 28 inches wide. These seats feature power-ports,
adjustable headrests, a massage function, and various recline controls.
Passengers seated in the premium section receive complimentary meals, refreshments,
and alcoholic beverages and courtesy use of the RED movie catalogue.
Among a number of innovations Virgin America incorporates a "food button" or touch-screen seatback
food ordering system, at every seat.
Virgin America presently has a fleet of 24 Airbus A320 aircraft and is headquartered at San Francisco
International Airport. It currently flies to seven cities with daily services from San Francisco to Las Vegas,
Los Angeles, New York - Kennedy, Washington – Dulles and Seattle. From Los Angeles both Washington
and Seattle are served. The New York – Las Vegas route is considered a breakthrough.

 Virgin America has announced that it is the first and only airline to offer Gogo In-flight Internet service on every flight. Guests on any of Virgin America's 100 daily flights have the option to surf the Web, check e-mail, or log on to their corporate VPN - all from the comfort of their seats at 37,000 feet.Virgin America marks this in-flight WiFi milestone with another first for an airline: an air-to-ground Skype video call with Oprah Winfrey which will air on The Oprah Winfrey Show. "As a new airline, Virgin America is reinventing the typical domestic air travel experience with award-winning service and brand new, beautifully designed planes equipped with the latest technology and entertainment. With power outlets at every Virgin America seat, Gogo(R) has now turned our planes into WiFi hotspots and home offices in the air," said Porter Gale, Vice President of Marketing for Virgin America. "Hosting a chat from a plane at 37,000 feet to Oprah Winfrey in her studio is a fun example of how Virgin America is embracing technology and meeting the needs of consumers who want to stay connected." Virgin America in-flight teammate Mandalay Roberts chats with Oprah Winfrey on this Thursday's episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, entitled "Where the Skype Are You?" via video chat from the First Class cabin of Virgin America Flight VX780 en route from Seattle to Los Angeles. Oprah Winfrey also surprised and met some of the 120 guests on board the regularly scheduled commercial flight and hosted the first ever Skype-enabled in-flight wine tasting, where Virgin America guests swirled, sniffed and sipped right along with her from the skies. For more on the segment, visit: www.oprah.com Although Virgin America does not typically allow Voice-Over-IP (VoIP) products like Skype video call in-flight due to concerns about maintaining a quiet, restful cabin environment, guests can currently use Gogo(R) to Skype via the instant message feature, in addition to e-mailing, tweeting, updating their Facebook pages and any of the myriad other ways the web is keeping people connected. The early roll out of the Gogo(R) service across the airline's network makes Virgin America the first and only airline to offer consumers in-flight WiFi on every flight - regardless of route, aircraft type, or flight time. "We were thrilled to virtually host Oprah Winfrey and her audience on-board one of our flights. The excitement people have about in-flight WiFi has been reflected in the rave reviews we've received from our guests since we launched the service on our first plane back in November. Our tech-savvy fliers have already embraced the option, as we're regularly seeing up to one-quarter of guests on any given flight logged on," added Gale. The Gogo(R) service is available for $12.95 for daytime flights of over three hours, $9.95 for daytime flights of less than three hours, $5.95 on red-eye flights and $7.95 for handheld devices. In November 2008, Virgin America launched Gogo(R) In-flight Internet on its first flight with a first ever "air-to-ground" video stream to YouTube Live - YouTube's first official real-world user event. In February 2009, the airline became the first to host a live national television broadcast via WiFi stream while in-flight over the coast of Massachusetts with CBS News' THE EARLY SHOW. This spring, Virgin America also became the first and only carrier to show guests which flights were WiFi enabled at the time of booking, as the airline continued to roll out its service fleetwide.
