DIVING WITH MANTA RAYS & OTHER CARIBBEAN HIGHLIGHTS

TOBAGO , LESSER ANTILLES

Divers are flocking to the island of Tobago for the chance to swim with monster manta rays. A dozen or so giant mantas, 6 to 10 feet wide, live in the Batteaux Bay area, some year-round. Divers may have to settle for a sighting of the creatures, but most will be able to interact with them. The friendly mantas encourage divers to hold on for a ride - a practice that once earned them the nickname Tobago taxis. Today's more eco-sensitive approach is to merely swim in their presence. Best times: November to April .

Where did you get married?

BAHAMAS Not the first place you would think of getting married...

These islands were developed with Holidays in mind, but their natural beauty is irrefutable too. To escape the tourist scene on Grand Bahama, visit the vast pine forests and the world's longest underwater cave system in Lucayan National Park; in Nassau, even the biggest culture fan can appreciate the historic downtown area and bargain for hand-woven mats, hats, and baskets at the world's largest straw market

DOMINICA   Guadeloupe & Martinique holidays in the Caribbean

Blue-headed hummingbird , ringed kingfisher with a rust-colored stomach and a peacock spreading its magnificent span of blue, green, turquoise and brown feathers. Then the butterflies, a sweep of deep blues, oranges and yellows. The backdrop of plant life - from white and pink orchids to heliconias, begonias, elephant ears and jade vine, with its extraordinary aquamarine flowers - a spectacle all its own.
come to Dominica for this. With more than half of its 289.5-square-mile surface covered by rain forest - including the lush 22,000-acre Northern Forest Preserve, 17,000-acre Morne Trois Pitons National Park, and more than 350 rivers and streams - this Caribbean island offers a view into the natural bounty of the tropics. Most people travel to St. John to bask in the luxury of five-star resorts, dine in expensive restaurants and get seen at shiny bars with ocean views. But to those searching for a more authentic experience, the swankiest of the three US Virgin Islands also reveals an exciting glimpse of Caribbean life - one that sparkles with West Indian flavours, aromas and rhythms. GRENADA , calling itself the "Spice Island of the Caribbean" in the tourist brochures. And the slogan is true to this day, with the island's large output of nutmeg, cloves, mace, ginger, and of course cinnamon. In fact, there's a nutmeg plant on the island nation's flag. This 133 square-mile isle is also known for, you guessed it, tourism. But the great thing about English-speaking Grenada is that tourism here means low-key boutique hotels - a far cry from the mega-resorts and all-inclusive's found in other parts of the Caribbean. So if you're looking for character and quietness, & the old adage ' Leave only footprints' is really true here in this -the spice island of your dreams.

MONTSERRAT Don't forget this British colony island - reachable from Antigua . Discovered by Columbus in 1493 (& the Irish!)

After 350 years of dormancy the volcano reminder us how most of the Caribbean was formed, here's to another 350 years of tranquility.

You get an extra site seeing trip here the beauty & power of Nature. At least support the people by a visit. You can helicopter out in

20 minutes or take a ferry ride in about 1hour - a little different than your average excursion..

ANTIGUA an Introduction

Independent since 1981, Antigua and Barbuda (Antigua 's sister island to the north) have between them about 170 square miles and 66,000 inhabitants. The chief industry is tourism, which has replaced the production of sugar in the top spot (though sugar production continues). There is no extreme rainy season, and temperatures hover around the 80s most of the year.

What it does have is magnificent beaches (reputedly, 365 of them), and excellent, quality hotels located directly on those beaches, as well as a great deal of sailing activity from its well-maintained marinas and yacht slips. Very good for Weddings

ARUBA Safely situated outside the usually known islands.

18 miles north of Venezuela, Aruba boasts year-round sunny skies, cooling trade winds, and beaches that rank with the best in the world

St. Maarten/St Martin Shared by the French and the Dutch - If you want to Marry here you have to be 'Resident' for 10 days...

St. Martin is considered by many to be the sailing capital of the Caribbean. (But don't tell that to an Antiguan.)
BERMUDA is small, select, and manicured with its homes with white roofs, green lawns and flowers. There is the feeling of prosperity, and a controlled atmosphere--reflected not simply in the tight lid on further hotel construction, but in the prohibition of any further immigration (other than by very wealthy people). It comes as close to being a "paradise on earth" as any island in the world. Reality can seem far behind.

The CAYMANS

One of the Caribbean's most popular dive destinations thanks to terrific underwater visibility, extensive reefs and plenty of colourful marine life. A great place to make those first forays into the ocean realm, whilst more experienced divers will find enough options for boat and shore diving to keep them submerged to their heart's content. The wall diving is superb and Stingray City shouldn't be missed, providing thrills for everyone from snorkellers to the most hardened afcionado. For anyone wishing to take their dive skills further, the Caymans are very strong on tech and speciality courses - For non-divers there are some fabulous beaches and walks, and deep sea fishing is popular. Nature lovers can spot iguanas, orchids and native parrots.
